Sally Hansen Natural Beauty The Super Balm Kit : Review

Ladies, thank you all for the wonderful emails after yesterday's just for you offer ! I am truly touched.

Did I just say, touched ? I sound like a 97 year old grandma.

What I mean is - Its Kool man ! No biggie ! Yeah ! I'll bring you the deals ! Sure man !

Are kids still saying Kool ? My mom just reminded me I will be 26 soon. No fair.

Since everybody is super excited over Holiday deals, I thought I'd share another one from the same folks today. So you could go into select CVS stores and get whatever rocks your boat. Or your friend's or sister's or mom's boat.

I don't own a boat. Neither does my sister or my mom or my friend(s). But they are all getting a value pack for Christmas ! It will rock their proverbial boat.

This next kit is a lip balm kit. Three lip balms in one rectangular kit. A $26 value. But just for you $12.99.

The three shades in it are
Fresh Pink - a barely there ( not really "there") pink
Nude Shimmer - a barely there ( really, its there. You can see sometimes.) Nude with a hint of shimmer
Berry Shine - The cheerleader of the gang ! Such a pretty berry with a golden glaze.

Look at that ! How can I say no to that !

Can you tell my lips were very cracked ? That's the beauty of a colored lip balm. A berry colored lip balm. It balms and it berries !

Love,
Indian Girl
PS : If you don't find these kits at your CVS , I might wait out a couple more weeks or so. Some stock products immediately, some get them later. They probably dont wanna get into Holiday madness already ! Cant blame them ! Also these are available only at select stores which I guess means select cities as well. If I get a list of those stores , I'll be sure to let y'all know. Hang in there with me, while I gather up more details on Monday. Have a super weekend !

Julie Hewett Organic Camellia Lip Balm - Ruby : Review. More Organic Goodness !

A little over a year back I wrote about my love for Julie Hewett's Camellia Lip Balm. Back then there was just one kind - natural. One year later there are two new munchkins joining the group ! Their names are rose - a see through pink tinted lip balm and ruby - a red tinted see through lip balm.

No points for guessing it forehand !

Since last Friday I haven't worn anything on my lips other than Ruby. An out and out red lipstick is hard to do everyday but a red lip balm of the sheerest kind is no problem at all ! And sheer juicy natural lips only gave me more incentive to try deeper shades on my eyes ! I have an everyday brown and a deep purple tutorial coming up !

Apart from the new colors the packaging is new too ! They are not only available in pots ($20) but are also available in palettes/pans ($18). I say go for the pan because the design is just gorgeous ! It almost looks like ivory on black wood - but its not ! Also its a lot more easier to use than the pot !

The old good things about the lip balm still apply - its organic , still contains camellia oils which is the closest there is to natural oil our skin produces and can be used on your face , nails, cuticles, elbows !

Love,
Indian Girl
PS : If you love the brand stay tuned because there is a lot lot more new goodies from them ! Check them out on their site

Chapstick True Shimmer : Review

Everything and everybody is getting upgraded and so has our favorite lip balm, Chapstick. Its weird calling Chapstick , a lip balm. Its really one of those things where the brand name has become synonymous with the product !

This new offering is really just that - an upgraded Chapstick with a hint of shimmer to it and loads of flavor. Four flavors we can choose from are Tropical, Botanical Berry, Blended Fruit and Peppermint Rush. I really liked the botanical berry ( its pink !) and the peppermint one (duhh... mint !) Apart from the regular moisturizing formula that has hydrated millions of lips, these new ones are sure to be a hit with young teens and tweens ! I personally hate kids who wear makeup but as long its chapstick with shimmer - no problemo ! Tres cute, actually !

Have you tried these new shimmer sticks ? They only cost $2.79, you know ! Pick up four for yourself or for your cute little niece or daughter !

Or torture your boyfriend by replacing his regular one with one of these true shimmers ! Now, that's fun !
I'm mean.

Love,
Indian Girl

Smooch

In the aftermath of my little bubonic plague I was left with insanely dry lips. I'm not sure why. The weather was quite humid and my water consumption was even higher than normal. I managed to keep my skin from suffering, but my lips paid the price.

Like every beauty blogger worth her lotions and potions, I have a commercial-sized collection of lip balms. I tried them all: L'Occitane, Kiehl's, Smith's Rosebud salve, Burt's Bees, Philosophy and every other tube or tin that resides in my drawers, purses and cabinets. Nothing helped. My lips remained dry and cracked, especially around that tiny scar on my lower lip that felt like it was seconds away from bleeding. I love all the above mentioned balms and normally they are more than enough to keep me and my lips happy, but now only managed to act as a goopy layer.

Rummaging through another purse I came across a rarely used tube of Benefit's Smooch. I applied it without expecting much. It's a thin liquid that was never one of my top five of balms, mostly because it can leave a white residue if not blended carefully with a lip color. Also, as fond as I am of several Benefit products (there's a post coming about a couple of extra fabulous shadows and a lipstick), their lip glosses aren't up to par.

To my surprise, I felt an instant relief. That was the end of dry lips. A few more applications of Smooch during the day and I was back to normal. There are many lip products that contain Vitamin E and jojoba oil, so I'm not sure why this was the winner. It might have something to do with the thin consistency that sinks into the skin instead of coating it. Whatever it was, it worked. I'm adding that to my list of essentials for fighting a cold.

You Said Chicken Poop!

There are many ways to generate marketing buzz for your beauty product. You can pay a celebrity to be your spokesperson (and hope that he or she don't end up shaved head and in rehab), you can make limited editions of your products that are either so limited that only select few can get their paws on them, or are only sold at one or two stores in the entire world (while you watch with satisfection at the insane bid wars your products are getting on eBay).

Or, you give your product an insane name.

I'd never believe it had I not seen the advertisement in my Gmail account, but there's a lip balm called Chicken Poop. It is sold on Drugstore.com and is quite popular. The ingredients are: Soy, Jojoba, Sweet Orange, Lavender, Beeswax. Nothing to do with chicken (or poop), and the reviews on the website are very positive.

The name has that kind of charm that makes you think of two little boys grossing each other out at the dinner table. Cute, in a way, but I'm not sure that this is what I want in my beauty products (though it's still way better than a stoned celeb).
I picked a tin of Burt's Bees strawberry lip balm on a whim. I needed some colorless goop to use under lipstick, and this one was there. I can't say that I get the hype surrounding this brand. I've tried several of the foot and hand products and was never blown away. They were not exactly competition to Bliss' lotions.

But I gave it a chance, and I guess it's okay. The balm feels nice on the lips, once you manage to scoop it out of the tin- the texture is like shea butter, and not very finger-friendly. It keeps the lips soft and allows me to put on the dark, dry lip colors of the season. But I'd be much happier if it didn't have this strong synthetic strawberry scent. The smell is almost unpleasant.
