Oscars 2010 - Diane Kruger Hair Style

Danilo, Celebrity Stylist for Pantene, styled Diane’s beautiful knotted updo last night for the Oscar’s. See below for how he created the look!

How To ?

1. Cleanse and condition hair with the Pantene Pro-V Restoratives Frizz Control Shampoo and Conditioner

2. Mist a leave-in conditioner and the Pantene Pro-V Volume Root Lifter Spray Gel all over damp hair

3. Blow dry hair upside down to create a voluminous base for styling

4. Section hair into a side part, divide into three sections (sides and back)

5. Braid side sections of hair back away from the face in an upward direction creating tightness on the sides

6. Pull the back section of hair into a high ponytail leaving volume on top

7. Split ponytail into two sections and twist in a rope-like formation, incorporating side braids into two back twists

8. Continually twist hair while pinning it into place as the twist braid is knotted up around itself

9. Mist hair with the Pantene Pro-V Texture Hairspray to lock style in place

10. Finish the look with a pretty broche to dress up the look

Hairstyle Or Lack

What is this ?

Am I not liking it just coz its not a very regular one or is it weird for you too ?

Of course then the question arises...Are we both not liking it just coz its not a very regular one ?

Easy Hairstyle Idea For Long Hair

This time around I was inspired by this picture below. Its from Jason Wu show at Fall/Winter 2010 and the side braid from Alexander Wang SS2010. At the Jason Wu Show, the model's hair was twined with a black elastic and then twisted into a chignon ! I stuck with just the twining part and used my hair instead of black elastic.

Best done on freshly washed hair so you have some volume on the head like the models did at the Alexander Wang show - a little messy , a lot of fun !

The hairstyle reminds me of all happy things - spring/ summer , a day out with the girls, sunflowers and yellow How To ?

If you have bangs, go ahead and set them - I do & did .
Brush your hair and pull all of it onto one side.
Now pull out two strips of hair from either sides of your hair bunch.
Cross the two strips over the your hair, twining as far as the hair extends.
Add a hair tie where it ends. That's it !

Speaking of braids and hair ties I found two new hair gadgets on Sephora's website.

BCBG Backstage Beauty - Low Chic Hair Bun

The modern, asymmetrical ensembles that ruled the runway at the BCBG show were completed with a contemporary, sleek hairstyle created by John Frieda International Creative Consultant Harry Josh.
Inspiration

“The collection had a clean, modern feel,” says Harry. “I wanted to complement that aesthetic with a very comfortable and effortlessly chic look. The inspiration came from the models themselves, who would come into casting and quickly pull their hair back into a bun. I really wanted to create a look that a woman wearing BCBG would sport herself, since the looks on the runway were also extremely wearable.”

Low Chic Bun : How To ?

Harry began by applying John Frieda’s Frizz-Ease Take Charge Mousse to dry hair and blow drying, using his fingers instead of a brush to separate the hair from the root and create texture. The technique was crucial to recreating the “pulled back” look any girl would get while styling her own hair.

Once the hair was secured in a low pony, Harry added a small amount of John Frieda’s new Root Awakening Strength Restoring Smoothing Lotion to the ends of the hair to ensure the tips were healthy looking and defined. He then wrapped the pony into a twisted bun, leaving the tips of the hair sticking out in a fan-like “fringe.”

“The fringe really completed the look made this low, classic bun a modern, chic style,” says Harry.

Oscars 2010 : Amanda Seyfried's Hair - How To ?

Among the several updo's that were frizzy and floppy ( SJP, JLo) there was one that stood out - Amanda Seyfried's sleek stylish low bun.

Harry Josh, John Frieda International Creative Consultant, is sharing his styling secrets to get Oscar presenter Amanda Seyfried’s cool, understated look with easy-to-use tips and tricks.

Harry gave Amanda the new Frizz-Ease Smooth Start Hydrating Shampoo and Conditioner in advance as the frizz-fighting formula was essential to smooth and hydrate dry strands and replenish moisture for a nice, smooth blow out.

“These shampoos and conditioners were the perfect way for Amanda to prep her hair,” said Harry. “The look was clean and sleek, so it was important to start the fight against frizz early so that Amanda’s hair would be silky, shiny and totally manageable.”

Harry applied the new Root Awakening Strength Restoring Gel to Amanda’s hair at the roots to help achieve the sleek, flattened shape he was going for.

Using a tail comb instead of a round brush to avoid lift, Harry blew the hair out, combing it flat to the head as he dried.

Harry then used the Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear Shape & Shimmer Hairspray section by section to hold the style.

“Amanda has such beautiful naturally blonde hair that I wanted to ensure it looked its best all night and didn’t photograph dark – which some finishing sprays can cause. By using a light hairspray you avoid adding residue or darkening the blonde hair.”

Harry finished by creating an extreme, slick side part and pulling Amanda’s hair back into a bun. He left a little bit of the bun sticking out in a fan, a last minute decision he made to reflect the pattern on Amanda’s earrings.

NYFW Fall / Winter 2010 : Sam Brocato Salon For Nima - 70's Inspired Soho Chic Hairstyle

“Nima’s collection had strong design elements on the right shoulder and we decided that a low ponytail that fell on the left side was a perfect complement to the clothes, “ says Sam.

Inspiration

THAT 70’s SHOW
Take Lauren Hutton’s hair from the 70s, mix it with Blake Liveley’s waves of today, and you get the inspiration behind the hairstyles at the NIMA Fall 2010 Fashion Week Presentation. “We tried to create a look that was very modern and Soho chic, yet still had a 70’s feel to it,” says Sam Brocato.

How To

Sam and Matthew Fugate from the Sam Brocato Salon give step-by-step tips on how to achieve this trendy style at home.

STEP 1: GETTING READY FOR PRIME TIME
“I prepped hair with Brocato Back to the Beach Spray to give it volume,” says Sam. After spritzing the models’ hair with the spray, Sam used a blow dryer to set the wavy look.

Matthew Fugate used dry shampoo to add texture to the models’ hair. “I wanted to dirty it up and give it that ‘I just got out of bed look’,” says Matthew.

STEP 2: ON THE SIDE
“Using a large barrel curling iron, I took different strands of the hair and curled it to give it more volume and texture, “explains Matthew. “I created a deep side part and used a clear elastic to secure the low ponytail.”

To give the ponytail added chic factor, the stylists used strands of the models hair and wrapped it around the elastic.

STEP 3: LOCK IT DOWN
“Since this was a two hour presentation, we had to make sure that hair could keep its shape and style,” says Sam. He used Brocato Moveable Hold Hair Spray to set all of the models looks.

John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze Clear Shine : Review

Glass like crystal clear shine, y'all !

I first came across the John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze Clear Shine ($9.99) during the golden globes when I learnt that celebrities use this as a hair glazing treatment before big events. If its good enough for red carpet and costs only $9.99 - it had to be tried !

If you know me, I generally don't write about something unless I've used for a month or two but really this one is just so incredible that I had to tell y'all ASAP !

All you have to do is apply this all over your hair (minimum amount- no overload needed) after shampoo/conditioner, spread it well using a wide tooth comb, wait a couple of minutes and then wash it off. Blow dry your hair and you'll see what I mean. I have a lot of hair on my head and it is heavy. But with this product my hair is so smooth, shiny and soft that it takes away all the heaviness that comes with fairly dry hair. I'm loving this !

The product can be used 2 - 3 times a week. But I guess I'll save just for special occasions coz in general I don't have a lot of problem with my hair. Its pretty good overall. But the Color Glaze Clear Shine takes it to a whole new level ! And the compliments - endless !

It has silicones in it but I don't have any problem with them. So people are allergic to it so keep your receipt.

More About John Frieda Luminous Color Glaze Clear Shine

Luminous Color Glaze Clear Shine contains a blend of shine enhancers and lightweight silicones that work together to impart dazzling shine and ultra-smooth texture. Clear Shine has a lower level of silicone than other shine products on the market, and it not only provides visible shine immediately but improves texture by mending hair’s damaged “pores,” making strands look smoother and shinier. This remarkable fix means that shine isn’t washed away with your next shampoo.

Easy Simple Hairstyle - Pony Tail Out Of A Bun

I've been having great hair days thanks to this new HerCut shampoo + conditioner. And this is the time to play around ! I was inspired by actresses who twist a tiny strand of hair around their pony tails hiding the hair tie. Except for this hairstyle you drown the hair tie with half your hair.

*don't mind the pajamas and the unedited pictures from the phone. This is The Real IG

This is how I did it

Do a side part.
Divide your hair into two parts at the back.
Pull the hair on the right side into a low side ponytail.
Now comb over all the hair from the left side over the center onto the right and roll it tight.
Now twirl the rolled hair around the hair tie and tuck the end in with a bobby pin.

* I still cant do a pull up...but am willing to try...

* behind those doors are all the beauty goodies

* Brownie points if you can name the products...

That's it ! You have a cute round bun with a pony tail coming right out of it ! I think it looks cute and hardly takes five minutes !

Bobby pins bend, break and hardly keep my hair in place so I had to use a sturdy metal hair pin which is not really invisible. But so be it.

Simple aint it ! You willing to give it a try ?

NYFW Fall / Winter 2010 : Odile Gilbert for Aveda - A Modern Twist On The Brigitte Bardot Pouf

Aveda lead stylist Odile Gilbert created a modern twist on the Brigitte Bardot “pouf” using Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray at the ORGANIC by John Patrick Fall/Winter 2010 Fashion Week show in New York.

Inspiration

“Our collection this season is centered around big, beautiful hair that makes our hand-woven tweeds look happy. Despite some inspiration from Joni Mitchell, Lady Diana, and Brigitte Bardot, the hair look is modern—very young and fun, not polished or structured.” — John Patrick of ORGANIC by John Patrick

How To

1. Brush through hair and prep with Aveda Phomollient™ Styling Foam to add body and shine. Use a comb to create a left side part.

2. Divide hair into four sections: sides, back, and top. Fold the top section over the face and clip back to separate.

3. Backcomb the back section of hair with a brush to create messy volume. Spray liberally with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray for maximum hold.

4. Create an anchor by crossing bobby pins horizontally across the middle of the back section of hair, just below the crown of the head.

5. Using large hair pins, attach a hairdresser's sponge at the crown, where bobby pins are anchored.

6. Cross the right section of backcombed hair over to the left, pinning over the hairdresser's sponge with large hair pins. Repeat with the left section of backcombed hair, bringing it to right. Take all remaining hair in the back section and twirl to the left to create a French twist. Secure the twist at the nape of the neck with hair pins, creating a tail of loose hair draped over the shoulder.

7. Set aside a portion of hair to fall in front of the left ear, and brush remaining top section of hair over the hairdresser's sponge, Pin it into the French twist to create a “pouf.” Pull lightly with fingers to create loose, spontaneous volume. Spray with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray.

8. Leave wisps of free falling hair in front of the left ear, and loosely pin remaining pieces above the right ear. Finish with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray.

Products Used

Aveda Phomollient™ Styling Foam
Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray (launching in June 2010)

Q/A

Q: What was your inspiration for this look? How did you collaborate with the designer to create the look?

“John Patrick and I were inspired by the idea of a young, teenage girl seeing a gorgeous, Brigitte Bardot-esque hair look in a magazine or on TV and trying it on themselves. It’s very spontaneous, cute, and modern. The look involves a messy pouf tamed by Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray and a French twist in the back. The volume is impulsive and a little undone.” —Odile Gilbert for Aveda

Q: How could a woman achieve this look on her own?

“This look is especially beautiful for evening. Tease hair with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray and place a hairdresser's sponge on the crown of the head. Twist the sides of hair over the sponge from left to right, then pull the top section of hair over before securing with hair pins. Bring a piece of hair in front across the face and pin it in place, finishing with Aveda Control Force™ Hair Spray.”— Odile Gilbert for Aveda

Q: What is the inspiration for your collection? What is the look you are capturing?

“The inspiration for my collection this season is a hybrid between Joni Mitchell and Lady Diana Spencer, with a special focus on hand-woven Scottish tweeds.” — John Patrick of ORGANIC by John Patrick

Q: You have made a real effort to “green” your show this season. How do you feel about this accomplishment?

“Being sustainable and ethical is not a trend for ORGANIC— it has been the focus of our brand since it’s founding, an inherent part of our DNA that is taken very seriously. We are thrilled to be a part of Aveda’s Clean Water initiative this season—Aveda is an amazing brand that is wholeheartedly committed to the environment, and we are proud to be partnering.” — John Patrick of ORGANIC by John Patrick

Macadamia Natural Oil - Healing Oil Treatment : Review

As far as my hair goes - the only thing I trust will help are oils. This time around its the Macadamia Natural Oil ($36 / 1.5 oz). This oil combines the nourishing properties of both Macadamia Nut Oil, Argan Oil and several other natural rejuvenating botanicals.

Smells So Yumm !

The first thing I have to tell you about this oil - is its scent . The fragrance is AMAZING !
Nothing like I've ever smelled before.

Smelled before ? Is that right ? Or is it smelt before right ? I never know what's gonna come outta my mouth. Sometimes I surprise myself ...

Its just so incredibly delicious. I wish there was scratch here area on the computer where you could scratch and take a whiff of this.

Just for fun

All The Uses :

The product is sold as a after wash conditioner to be used on damp hair. But I love using it as a pre-wash conditioner. Post wash I lightly dab a bit of the oil here & there on my hair just for the delicious scent.

I'd like to be ready just in case I meet a cowboy and he happens to run his fingers through my hair !

Hey, a girl can dream !

The makers also claim that the product helps extend the life of color treatments. Apply the oil to the hair prior to color application. This is suppose to improve the ability of your hair to absorb the color. Since I don't color my hair - I couldn't test this out.

Its Dense But In A Comfortable Way

The oil is more viscous / dense than coconut oil but lesser than Castor oil. Because it is on the heavier side remember to apply very little and work your way from there. The oil does not disappear completely but neither does it remain greasy. Its a happy in-between state.

I'd recommend this for girls with relatively thick & dry hair. If you have fine hair, remember to start off with very little product or use it as a pre-wash conditioner. The pump dispenser is good with dispensing just the right amount. The oil adds a lot more moisture and makes hair more manageable. But I'm not letting go of my coconut oil any time soon for two reasons. One, I need a LOT of oil for my hair. Two, its cheap. For now, I am ignoring the downside of the not so pleasant scent.

The Macadamia Natural Oil line is currently being sold at Ulta. By March 2010, it will also be available at JCPenney Salons. Read more at macadamiahair.com

John Frieda Root Awakening Nourishing Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner Review

Happy New Year !

Happppppppy New Year !

Happy Neeeeeeeeeeeew Year !

How do you say it ?

I'm more the Haaaaaaaaaaaaaapy New Year types.

Unless of course I feel like a Happy Neeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeew Year. Then I just say that.

How many of you stayed in welcoming the new year ?

I did. I stayed in, tucked under blankets catching up on episodes of The City. And just so I don't feel totally like a loser I wish someone else says they did too. Go on say it. Its the new year, make a good girl feel better...

I really don't know how much more longer I can refer to myself as girl. I'll be 26 in eight days. Indian Lady just has a very weird tone to it. Oh yes, I know, you know what I mean. Lady...

Anyways while I sat at home all bundled up I had something shiny to be happy about among other things. So happy that I even tweeted about it.

My hair.
My hair was awesome.
Totally awesome.
Totally awesome in a Jennifer Aniston kinda way.

I've been using The John Frieda Root Awakening Nourishing Moisture Shampoo & Conditioner for Dry Hair. The shampoo & conditioner contain Eucalyptus & Peppermint Oils that add a blast of life to my hair and scalp. The peppermint isn't very strong so I'm not left shivering in the shower. And the scent of eucalyptus reminds me of when I was ten. My school was surrounded with eucalyptus trees and its amazing scent ! So calm and refreshing...

Zero Frizz Y'all !

The conditioner is good. Very good actually. But the real hero is the shampoo. Twice I went without using the conditioner and my hair still felt good. I never go without using a conditioner. Haven't in over ten years but just after cleansing with the shampoo my hair was already feeling good. So I got out. There was a little frizz that I had to take care of but other wise it is brilliant !

With the conditioner I have zero frizz. This is a first for me. I didn't have to set my hair or my bangs. Everything just fell into place on its own. That's big given how much hair I have on my head.

Winter Flakes

Before I started on this John Frieda shampoo, I'd been having an issue with dry scalp.A dose of Nizoral, couple of times took care of it. I wanted to throw this in because its winter and a lot you could be facing some unwanted flakes. On my dry scalp this pair of shampoo & conditioner worked well to restore its moisture and has kept me flake free. I haven't had to use Nizoral for weeks now ! Give it a try if you've been having similar issues.

Complete With A Downside

This is one of the most complete shampoos I've tried in a long time. Softness, shine, no frizz, soothing scent, refreshing, non drying - great on all fronts !

Except on the quantity. We only get 8.45 fl.oz for $6.99. Most other drugstore shampoos come in nearly 12.5 fl.oz packs. I'm gonna see if Costco carries one of those humongous sizes of this one. Will let you know if I find it.

As for 2010, this is my year.

I entered 2010 with great hair. You know what they say right ? Anything that happens on the first day of New Year will continue happening all year long. Any year that begins with great hair is going to be a great year !

Y'all agree ?

Shu Uemura Essence Absolue : Review ; Truly An Elixir For Dry Hair

Hiya Ladies !

Hope y'all had a wonderful Christmas ! Did you get all the gifts you wanted ;)

Mine was UNBELIEVABLE. Unbelievably good. I'll share some pictures with you soon and you'll see what I was up to on Christmas day ! I also got a jacket that I have been in love with forever. Just *so* happy and thankful for it all !

Essence Absolue - Absolutely Essential !

A while back we were all introduced to Essence Absolue, the nourishing protective hair oil from Shu Uemura. Remember ? It is the secret behind Jennifer Aniston's flawless hair and all ?

For a month now I have been using the product after every wash and I cant seem to be getting enough of it. Every time I remind myself that I must save it for special occasions but then I don't.

I have never been good at saving good things for special occasions.

When we were young my sister would save all expensive chocolates that we received as gifts and ate them one a week. I'd just eat it all up in a week. Saving good things for later just isn't my thing....

The hair oil has several uses like

1- Intensely hydrating leave-in conditioner for very dry/damaged hair
2- Pre-shampoo treatment for deep, nourishing care
3- Protection during color application, adding shine, moisture and elasticity to processed lengths & ends
4- Use in summer time as protective oil against the sun's harmful rays (UV filter)
5- Ultra-shine finisher along lengths and ends

I've used it only as a post wash, hair nourishing conditioner. Once I've washed and dried my hair (80% dry) , I pump the bottle once and use that small amount all over my hair. Just mess my hair around so the product spreads and them brush it.

Verdict

Hands down the softest hair I've ever had. My hair feels softer than a really really expensive Cashmere sweater. And it also has an incredible shine to it. No hair clip keeps my hair in place. It just slides off and I don't seem to mind it at all ! Its that soft and shiny !

There is absolutely no oiliness or stickiness from the product. It almost disappears into my hair but I do feel the hydrating effect that it gives once I brush my hair. All the fluffy volume I have after a wash gets tamed and softened.

And it does look like liquid gold. If it didn't have a pump on it, I might have used it as a table centerpiece - so pretty !

Overall it is worth every $ of the big big $65 that it costs.
But $65 is a lotta $$.
Lotta Lotta $$

Hair Extensions - Yay or Nay ?

Have you tried hair extensions ?

I haven't. But I think they're fun ! Clip in clip out - much easier than spending $$$ in salons over highlights, coloring and other hair things !

Check out the blond extensions on Kim K ! They are extensions right ?
(I love the volume on top, except not on me )

Check out those rings ! They used to be all the rage in the 90's . My older cousins were all over them ! Guess they are making a comeback !

5 Easy Steps To Shiny Soft Silky Hair (My)

After I put up a picture of my hair on a very good hair day, some of y'all wanted to know what I did to it. Because I feel really weird about a writing a post called - My Hair Care Routine; I called it 5 Easy Steps To Shiny Soft Silky Hair (My).

Its all good, coz God forbid somebody sees me on a super bad hair day , I don't want them going - "Uh-Oh I don't want no hair care routine tips from that !"

Before I start, I do wanna say that I have fairly easy hair to work with. There are no major issues - it is regularly well behaved and easy to handle. I don't mean that in a prude way. But just thought I'd mention because I don't wanna credit all the goodness to products. (Mom, Dad - yes I am proud of the hair - Thank you.)

This is all what I do and has worked well on moi.

STEP 1 : Pre - Condition

The night before I always ( well, mostly) apply coconut oil to my hair. I massage it into the scalp and then liberally spread it until every strand is dripping of coconut oil. And then I change my pillow case into an old ratty grey one and go to bed.

I read some where that American women are not very keen on pre conditioning treatments. No No women, they make all the difference. Take it from this professionally non-professional Indian Girl.

STEP 2 : Shampoo

The next day is shampoo time. Currently I am using Pantene. Pantene has worked well for me since I was teenager and I'm glad its cheap. Use required amount of shampoo , work it into good lather and wash it off. I don't let the shampoo stay on my hair for long. It dries hair out - any shampoo does this. So, its a short shampoo ritual.

STEP 3 : In Shower Condition

After shampoo its time for conditioning. I use what ever is available. Currently I am crushing on two products - both under $10. Will tell soon.

After washing the shampoo off, I gently squeeze out excess water from my hair - Very Important. If there is too much water the conditioner just gets washed down along with the dripping water.

Apply conditioner .

Use a wide tooth comb to spread it - Very Very Important.
I use a brush but it is NOT recommended. My hair is always more softer and less frizzy when I use a comb to spread the conditioner. Always.

I get best results when I let the conditioner stay on for at least five minutes because there is a lotta hair to condition.

STEP 4 : Warm Water Rinse

After 5 to 8 minutes of soaking my hair in conditioner, I rinse it off with warm water.

STEP 5 : Cold Water Rinse

After the warm water has removed all the conditioner off, I follow it up with a cold water / not so warm water rinse. Been doing this since I was 16 / 17 . I read in a women's magazine (that I was then not allowed to read) that its good to give the hair a final cold water rinse before you send it packing in a towel. And I've done it ever since.

I like doing the cold water rinse because it cools down the scalp and when I wrap it in towel, I don't have the hot steam coming drying my hair.

So, that's my five steps to shiny silky soft hair. Of course I don't always have shiny silky soft hair because :

a. I forget to take the brush into the shower
b. I get restless and wash the conditioner off in two minutes.
c. I assume its been long and wash the conditioner off in one minute.
d. I start taking care of the hair on my legs with shampoo on my hair - perfect recipe for dry hair.
e. Hair is in dry mode for no apparent reason.

Now gimme your tips for great hair ! We all wanna hear from you and wanna know more and more and more !

Happy Weekend !

Ellin Lavar Nourishing Oil : Review - Does It All !

Beauty Junkies everywhere have wanted a product that does it all.

Beauty Junkies everywhere have wanted a product that does it all and costs a single digit.

(No not your finger ! Digit as in a single digit number. Good Lord !)

Beauty Junkies Everywhere need to hear this story.

The Ellin Lavar Nourishing Oil that costs $8 and is safely placed in the hair care aisle of your local CVS is what beauty junkies everywhere have longed for. It really does it all !

I have used it as a night time eye and face moisturizer. It is a dry oil; so on a regular dry face day I could totally do it during the day as well ! After rubbing it all over my face, I rub the rest onto my rock hard cuticles. I spray it onto certain dry spots on my scalp. And after I do a heavy eye look on one of my eyes (just for the blog), I take it all off with a squirt of this oil.

I still haven't tested the theory but I get the feeling it will polish tiles and sparkle sinks as well !

That stick figure is me. I plan to be that size by New Year's with regular workouts of once a week and eating carbs only three times a day.

The product is sold solely as oil for the scalp. Now why would they do that ! It does so much more !!! I wrote to the folks at Ellin Lavar and they confirmed its innate abilities to be a super oil. Take my expert non-expert opinion on this, it really does all of the above.

That being said, before I engage in the process of pumping the oil out I take in a long breath and let it out slowly with the words " Om....." You really need all that clarity of mind to gather the patience to get the pump working.

Its called pumping science. You place the bottle horizontally and pump a couple of times. Then place the nozzle against your palm at a 45 degree angle and continue pumping until the oil oozes out. I hope Ellin Lavar gets this taken care of. I don't have many Om's left in me.

How To : Alicia Keys Hairstyle At AMAs

Tippi Shorter, Pantene Celebrity Stylist, styled Alicia Key’s hair last night for the American Music Awards. Alicia dominated the stage, performing her and Jay-Z’s smash hit “Empire State of Mind” while also rocking it solo with her new song “Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart.”

Here’s how Tippi gave Alicia her red carpet ‘do:

Gosh, I love the blues on Alicia Keys !

Alicia recently got her hair colored a few shades lighter with Clairol, so Tippi started off by washing her hair with the Pantene Pro-V Color Revival Shampoo & Conditioner to keep her color looking healthy and vibrant for the camera. Since Alicia performed twice on stage on top of walking the red carpet, Tippi came up with a fun updo that transformed effortlessly throughout the night. Alicia has always been well known for her braids, so Tippi decided to incorporate a creative twist that involved light, romantic braiding.

After Alicia’s hair was washed, Tippi sprayed the Pantene Pro-V Detangling Light Conditioning Spray to condition and protect her hair before heat styling. The detangler helped smooth her hair while Tippi blow-dried with a Mason Pearson brush. Tippi wanted to recreate the backward Mohawk braid that she did for Alicia’s most recent music video, so she sectioned the hair into three sections front to back. Then, she gathered the two outermost sections and secured the in ponytail using Ojon Animated Styling Cream. With the center section, Tippi started a braid from the nape all the way to the front, making it a little off center. She tucked the end of the braid underneath the main braid and secured with bobby pins. To finish the look with strong hold, Tippi used Ojon Tunu Elastik Hairspray and Bed Head Headrush Shine Spray.

I'm all over updos and braids these days. I also found an awesome website that has the cutest hairstyles. I first found them with the snake braid but didn't go back until recently to realize they have a whole blog full of hair styling ideas ! Check them out here
